Western society can be seen as a profound hive of interaction and activity, a great colony of free individual citizens. Pictorially it resembles a pyramid, with a base built from blue collar and lower middle class workers. If all is not well with them, socially and economically, the base of the edifice is rendered unstable. Under extreme situations, where their circumstances are especially grave, the structure is in danger of collapse.

Throughout the ages craftsmen have given considerable thought to the types of stone used during construction; stability, shape, texture, dimensions in relation to other bricks. Patriots are very often the mortar holding the structure together, whether at the base or the apex.
